Honey is a truly wonderful substance – but Alex and I were reminded of just how wonderful it is a few weeks ago when we got an email with some truly scary images from one of our testers for the FreeFrom Skincare Awards.
Her husband had had a really awful operation to remove a tumour from the side of his neck and the subsequent chemotherapy had left him looking like an atom bomb victim. None of the products that he was given by his specialists had more than a temporary effect on his skin but, when he found a manuka honey based cream that his wife had been asked to test in the cupboard, the effects were close to miraculous. See here on the SkinsMatter site for the full story – and the scary images….
This reminded me that some considerable time ago I had been to a presentation about manuka honey by a New Zealand expert, a Professor Peter Molan. Professor Molan believes that manuka honey is not only anti-bacterial (now generally recognised) but anti-inflammatory and therefore also of significant value to allergics.
To read about how he believes it can help hay fever eyes, sinusitis, allergic asthma, eczema, arthritis and even inflammatory bowel conditions, see my report here on our FreeFrom Nutrition Matters site.
And then, of course, you just need to think of wholemeal toast topped with honey in front of a log fire with a good book…… What more to say?
