Puddings before – and puddings after…. After 12 judges have had a good go at them, that is!! It was an impressive display of tasting as the 12 judges and already worked their way through 20 pastas and pizzas before getting onto those puddings – and had eaten lunch!!
What did they try? Well, a number of classic gluten-free pastas, rice, buckwheat, corn and millet based – but also a number of new shapes not to mention gnocchi and some edamame and mung bean fettuccine.
Tasty? Well you will have to wait for the shortlist on the 11th of February to find out….
As for the puddings, there was a fine showing of hot puds – jam and syrup sponges, sticky toffee pudding, apple pies and Bakewell tarts – not to mention a clutch of Christmas puddings as we did not have a Christmas category this year. As you can see, they all went down pretty well.
And then we had a huge showing of ice creams plus a few yogurts and meringues. No less than 18 dairy free or sugar free ices flavoured with everything from passion fruit and chocolate (together in one ice) to green tea and black sesame seeds, with a carrot cake ice cream thrown in for good measure!! Not surprising they are all looking a bit shell shocked in the image below!!
Anyhow, we got what we thought were some excellent winners, so everyone was happy – although I am suspecting that none of those judges are going to be gagging for a Cornetto all that soon…..
