Those readers who ‘tweet’ will know exactly what I mean – to those who don’t, apologies! A ‘tweetup’ is a get-together on Twitter – you all sit round your computers or your mobiles for an hour and ‘chat’ on Twitter – a formula that is now common in many online guises.
You may well be thinking that what we actually need to do is to get a life – but – it really is a very good way of contacting and communicating with others with shared interests, be they health, professional, commercial or purely social and, as Ryan Giggs and many others have found to their cost, scorn the influence of Twitter at your peril.
Anyhow, to my frustration since we have just launched our very own dedicated coeliac site, I shall not be around in person on June 2nd as I shall be at the Guild of Food Writers awards ceremony at Fishmongers’ Hall. However, thanks to the wonders of Tweetdeck (an excellent Twitter-managing programme) I can at least schedule lots of tweets with a promise to respond to questions and comments later.
For anyone who is intrigued but does not yet tweet – it is very simple to sign up. Just go to www.twitter.com – and follow the instructions! If you want to join in the conversation you will need to preface each tweet with the ‘hashtag’ #gftweetup’. (Google ‘hashtag’ for an explanation – it will be clearer than I am likely to offer!)
